The Estate & Wealth Strategies Institute and The Institute of Stewardship & Philanthropy were founded in 2001 by Robert A. Esperti and Renno L. Peterson. Both are part of Michigan State University’s Office of Outreach & Engagement.
Robert A. Esperti and Renno L. Peterson are preeminent estate planning attorneys who have literally changed the way Americans plan their estates. Through their 27 books, including books for professionals and the public, professional and lay articles, and extensive teaching, they have had a major impact on how professionals and the public view estate, financial, and charitable planning. The Estate & Wealth Strategies Institute (EWSI) seeks to be the preeminent Global Policy Institute for the estate and wealth strategies industry. It also serves as an accrediting body for courses offered by continuing education providers for accountants, attorneys, trust officers, planned giving officers, and laypersons in financial services, insurance, and other estate and financial planning professions.

The Institute of Stewardship & Philanthropy (ISP) helps philanthropic organizations and their officers through education and research. ISP has created a Virtual University that has courses for planned giving officers and other planning professionals who want to know more about charitable planning, working with Affluent Donors and their advisors, and estate planning. ISP has also developed a designation for planned giving officers: Certified Giving Officer. This designation focuses on charitable and estate planning, as well as methods for better understanding how to work with Affluent Donors and their other advisors.
ISP has also developed a series of PowerPoint Presentations and supporting materials for the use of professionals. These Presentations are a powerful method for conveying important charitable giving techniques in a simple format that motivates Affluent Donors to act.
